Is drinking water while standing really bad or it's just a myth?

In Ayurveda and some other ancient practices, it’s believed that drinking water while standing disrupts the balance of bodily fluids and can cause digestive issues. It’s thought to shock your system, potentially leading to joint pain, kidney issues, or bloating.

What science suggests:

Digestion: Drinking water standing up might make you swallow faster, which could introduce more air into your stomach, possibly causing gas or bloating.

Nutrient absorption: Some studies suggest that sitting and drinking slowly might help your body absorb nutrients better, though the difference may not be huge.

Kidney function: There’s no strong evidence that standing affects kidney function directly, but drinking water too quickly might not allow your body to properly filter it.
